Renegade rancher Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) has taken control of the small western town of Appaloosa, hoarding its resources and killing off the marshall and one of his deputies. Two gunmen, Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen), are hired to regain control of the lawless town, and put Bragg in his place.
