At 37, Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey), a successful, single career businesswoman, has decided the time is right to have a child. But, when she discovers that she's infertile, Kate is forced to consider other options. Eventually, she finds an unlikely surrogate in Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler), a working class woman from South Philly. Just when Kate thinks she finally has everything figured out, Angie shows up asking for a place to live, and the mismatched pair struggle to coexist as they prepare to become mothers.
