Opal (AnnaSophia Robb), a 10-year-old girl abandoned by her mother, moves to Florida to live with her father (Jeff Daniels), a preacher. One day at the local supermarket, Opal finds a stray dog and adopts him, naming the pooch Winn-Dixie after the store where he was found.
