In the Brazilian badlands of 1910, two families are locked in a deadly feud. Tonho Breves (Rodrigo Santoro) is ordered by his father to avenge the death of his older brother. He knows that if he abides by the code of vengeance that goes with defending one's land, he will surely be hunted and killed by a member of the rival family. Urged by his younger brother Pacu (Ravi Ramos Lacerda), Tonho begins to question the logic of this tradition before meeting with two performers from a small traveling circus.
