After his flight to Chicago is diverted and delayed due to bad weather, pretentious ad executive Neal Page (Steve Martin) decides to find another means of transportation in order to get home to his family for Thanksgiving. Joining Neal in his harrowing journey, much to his dismay, is shower curtain ring salesman Del Griffith (John Candy), an obnoxious blabbermouth who always seems to find a way to make a bad situation even worse.
