Benny (Aidan Quinn), a car mechanic, is devoted to caring for his mentally ill sister, Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson). She is a gifted artist but can't function in the outside world without his help. When Benny brings home Sam (Johnny Depp), a drifter he meets by chance, Sam and Joon are instantly drawn to each other. Sam is an eccentric guy who likes to imitate the famous silent movie comedian, Buster Keaton.
