Nora Wilder (Parker Posey) is cynical, thirty-something New Yorker with absolutely no marriage prospects, a fact her mother (Gena Rowlands) reminds her of on a daily basis. Bored with her job at an upscale hotel and envious of her best friend Audrey's (Drea de Matteo) perfect marriage, Nora doesn't believe her fortunes will ever change. But, after a series of horrible dates, Nora meets a Frenchman named Julien (Melvil Poupaud) who makes her see the world in a different light.
