After a plane crash leaves FedEx executive Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) alone on a deserted island, he must start a new life and learn to provide himself with food and shelter. As the isolation wears upon him, Noland strikes up a friendship with a volleyball name Wilson, who washed up on the beach with some other FedEx packages. Noland eventually masters the island, but the thought of living alone without his fiancée (Helen Hunt) for the rest of his life forces him to take a chance on the open water and leads to his return to civilization.
