In 1496, Juana de Castilla (Pilar López de Ayala) travels to Flandes to marry the Archduke Felipe de Austria (Daniele Liotti). Originally a political marriage, their relationship is eventually filled with passion and desire. When Juana later becomes Queen of Spain, the pressure of her duty and the discovery that her husband has many lovers injures her mental health, and Felipe decides to send her to a monastery, proclaiming himself the king.
