Johnny Depp stars as Gilbert, a teen who works long hours in a small-town convenience store and also has to take care of his autistic brother, Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio, who was nominated for an Oscar for this role). His devoted mother (Darlene Cates) is morbidly obese and also terrified of leaving the house.
