In the land of Jhamora, the winged Nohrin and the terrestrial Lockni have a long-standing feud rising from their mutual prejudices. When Delgo (Freddie Prinze Jr.), a rebellious Lockni teenager, forms an unlikely friendship with Kyla (Jennifer Love Hewitt), the spunky Nohrin Princess, hostilities between the two peoples escalate. With war imminent, Sedessa (Anne Bancroft), an exiled Empress, sets out to reclaim her rule with the help of a Raius (Malcolm McDowell), a devious traitor to the throne, and two bumbling servants (Eric Idle). After Empress Sedessa kidnaps Princess Kyla and frames Delgo for the crime, Delgo and his best friend, Filo (Chris Kattan), must put aside their differences to join forces with Bogardus (Val Kilmer), a tough Nohrin General.
