El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), a musician without a home, sets out to hunt down Bucho (Joaquim de Almeida), the druglord responsible for his love's murder. When Bucho learns that El is in town, he unleashes his gunmen. After being wounded in a firefight, El takes cover in a bookstore and recieves help from Carolina (Salma Hayek), the beautiful shopgril.
