Clothing designer Mary Haines (Meg Ryan) spends most of her days at beauty salons, fancy lunches and fashion shows with her gossipy, high-society friends. Her luxurious, happy life is disrupted when she learns that her husband is cheating on her with Crystal Allen (Eva Mendes), a sexy shop girl. No one is more scandalized than Sylvie Fowler (Annette Bening), Mary's supposed best friend.
