Effie White (Jennifer Hudson), Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles) and Lorrell Robinson (Anika Noni Rose) are three talented girls with voices of gold looking to make it big. They get their big break when they catch the ear of Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), an unscrupulous manager, who gets them a gig as backup singers for the famous James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). However, it is only a matter of time before fame takes its toll and Effie, the plump, yet very talented lead songstress is replaced by the beautiful, yet less riveting Deena. Directed by Bill Condon.
