Elliot (Henry Thomas) is a young boy who discovers a friendly little alien left behind by his companions on a late night visit to Earth. Along with his siblings, Michael (Robert MacNaughton) and Gertie (Drew Barrymore), Elliot bonds with E.T. before learning that he needs to contact his home planet so that he can be picked up.
