When a meteor falls in the Arizona desert, two local community college professors, Dr. Ira Cane (David Duchovny) and Prof. Harry Block (Orlando Jones), are the first to investigate. What they discover is that the meteor has brought alien organisms that have begun to evolve at an incredible rate in earth's atmosphere. Joined by Dr. Allison Reed (Julianne Moore), a government scientist, and Wayne Grey (Seann William Scott), a fireman in training, it's up to Ira and Harry to stop the aliens before they take over the planet.
