After learning that he only has six weeks to live, Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) quits his job and leaves his fiancée, determined to spend the rest of his days alone. But, when his neighbor (Adriana Barraza) discovers a stain on the side of his house that looks like the Virgin Mary, Henry's rundown suburban home becomes an attraction for believers. His solitude broken, Henry is initially annoyed by the attention this "miracle" attracts, but eventually he's moved by evidence of faith he witnesses, and his sense of hope begins to return.
