Julia Lambert (Annette Bening) is growing tired of the good life. A huge star of the London theater scene of the 1930s, Lambert looks for excitement and finds it in Tom Fennel (Shaun Evans), a young American looking for fame, not love. When Lambert discovers the unfaithful Tom's obsession with the beautiful Avice Crichton (Lucy Punch), Julia is determined to prove that the bright lights still shine for her.
