Rocky Sullivan (James Cagney) and Jerry Connolly (Pat O'Brien) grow up together in a tough New York City neighborhood. After being caught by the law, Rocky is sent to reform school and continues on his criminal path. But, Jerry, who escapes from the police, goes straight, eventually, becoming a priest who works with troubled kids.
