The title character (Jeff Daniels) is a famous writer known as an expert on spirituality. But when it comes to his own life, he doesn't have a clue. Grouchy and lonely, he is forced out of his isolation when a bookstore owner contacts him. An overprotective single mother (Lauren Graham) discovers where he lives and comes begging for advice.
