Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner) is a lovable, apatheic loser coasting through life until his intelligent 12-year-old daughter Molly (Madeline Carroll) registers him as a voter and forces him to vote in the presidential election. After a freak accident in the voting booth causes Bud's vote not to be processed, he becomes the center of a media circus when it's discovered that his single vote will determine the race's outcome. With the two candidates (Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer) deadlocked, their managers (Stanley Tucci and Nathan Lane) set out to persuade Bud to lean in their direction, as millions of people wait for him to make the biggest decision of his life.
