Based on two true stories, one part of the film follows master cookbook writer Julia Child (Meryl Streep) as she overcomes anti-American snobbery and male chauvinism to become an expert in French cooking in Paris in the Fifties. The other half follows Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a mixed-up young woman living in contemporary New York, who decides to make cook every recipe in Julia Child's most famous book and write about it.
