San Francisco police detective Scottie Fergusson (James Stewart) is forced to retire when he develops vertigo after a colleague falls to his death. Fergusson thinks he can make easy money babysitting an old friend's wife (Kim Novak), who is apparently possessed by an ancestral spirit.
