Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe (Marc Anthony), one of the biggest Spanish-language singers in the 1970s, starts the salsa movement and brings it to the US. Despite his passionate relationship with his love Puchi (Jennifer Lopez) and his international recognition, Lavoe is unable to escape the temptation of drugs and his personal pain.
