Humbert Humbert (James Mason), a troubled professor of French literature in his mid-forties, rents a room from sex-starved widow Charlotte Haze (Shelley Winters) and falls in love with her teenage daughter, Lolita (Sue Lyon). After Charlotte is hit by a car and killed, Humbert and Lolita take their disturbing affair on the road, posing as father and daughter to escape suspicion.
