Bob Harris (Bill Murray) is a washed up movie star who finds himself in Tokyo shooting a whiskey commercial. In the hotel bar, he meets a young woman named Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) who is tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). The chance meeting blossoms into a surprising friendship, as Bob and Charlotte venture out into Tokyo to explore the city and encounter its citizens while discovering that life is full of hidden possibilities.
