Just as Tom Bailey (Patrick Dempsey) decides to get over his fear of commitment and come clean about his feelings for his best friend Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), she announces that she is getting married. When she asks him to be her "maid" of honor, Tom accepts, hoping that he will be able to change her mind before the big day. As the date approaches, Tom must assist in all of the uncomfortable prepartions, all the while trying to figure out a way to convince Hannah that he is the man she is looking for.
