After a series of kidnappings sweep through Mexico City, John Creasy (Denzel Washington), an alcoholic ex-CIA operative, is hired to be the bodyguard for nine-year-old Pita Ramos (Dakota Fanning). Creasy is disinterested in his assignment and can barely tolerate the girl, but eventually the Pita's kind, cheerful demeanor leads him to open up to her.
