The narrator (Edward Norton), a product liability evaluator and insomniac who is addicted to self-help groups, is liberated from his cookie-cutter, mail-order life after meeting Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a sado-masochistic anarchist who runs a nationwide network of fight clubs. As their friendship grows, the narrator discovers that Durden is secretly plotting a series of calculated pranks and terrorist attcks in order to overthrow the capitalist system. As the narrator struggles with a decision between right and wrong, his relationship with a fellow self-helper (Helena Bonham Carter) begins to unravel, along with his grip on reality.
