Oliver Geary (Ashton Kutcher), an uptight, career-oriented young man, and the free-spirited Emily Friehl (Amanda Peet) meet on a flight from LA to New York. After a very brief romance, which only spans the duration of the flight, the two part ways, proclaiming that they are woefully unsuited for one another. Oliver gives Emily his phone number, telling her to call his mother in seven years to see if his career and life plans have come to fruition.
