Marjane Statrapi (Chiara Mastroianni), an outspoken young Iranian girl, comes of age during the Islamic Revolution. After the fundamentalists take power, forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands, Marjane uses her wit to outsmart the "social guardians" and discovers punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden, while living with the terror of government persecution and the Iran/Iraq war. As Marjane grows, she must make peace with past and deal with the lack of acceptance of Muslims in Europe. Directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi.
