Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is sick of her life. An officer worker in Arizona, she seizes the chance to take $40,000 from her boss and heads out for her boyfriend (John Gavin) in California. Along the way, she stops at the Bates Hotel, a quiet roadside getaway with a suspicious owner (Anthony Perkins) and a terrifying secret.
