Pimental was a soldier in Vietnam who lost most of his hearing when a shell exploded near him. Back home, he received poor medical treatment and little help living with his disability. He befriended Art Honeyman (Michael Sheen), a brilliant young man confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy and together they began to fight for better treatment for the disabled.
