Korean War veteran Avery Ludlow (Brian Cox) lives alone in a small town, running a local hardware store with Red, his faithful dog, as his only companion. After local thugs, led by Danny McCormack (Noel Fisher), rob the old man and shoot and kill Red, Avery sets out for make Danny pay for his actions. When Avery confronts Danny's father (Tom Sizemore), Danny denies the whole thing.
