During WWII, Hungarian poet Hannah Senesh (Meri Roth) leaves the safety of Palenstine to become a resistance fighter and joins a mission to rescue Jews in her native country; the only mission of its kind carried out during the war. After parachuting behind enemy lines, Senesh is captured, torture and executed by the Nazis, while her mother (Marcela Nohynkova) becomes her personal advocate and tries desperately to save her daughter's life.
