After leaving his pregnant fiancée, Libby (Thandie Newton), at the altar, Dennis (Simon Pegg), a charming, slightly overweight, but overall good guy, has spent the last five years regretting his decision and lacking a sense of purpose. In an attempt to win Libby back and prevent her from falling for a two-faced American named Whit (Hank Azaria), Dennis sets out to train for marathon. Having little athletic talent and even less stamina, Dennis must rely on his friends Gordon (Dylan Moran) and Mr. Ghoshdashtidar (Harish Patel) to keep him focused on his goal so that he doesn't screw up his last shot to win back the mother of his child.
