After escaping from the curse of a mysterious video tape that killed everyone else unfortunate enough to watch it, journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) and her son, Aidan (David Dorfman), move from Seattle to a small coastal town in Oregon, hoping to leave the horrifying tragedy behind them. But, after being in their new home for only a short time, another death occurs which seems eerily familiar to Rachel. When her investigation once again leads her to possess the dreaded tape, Rachels destroys it, believing that they curse may be put to rest once and for all. Her hopes prove to be short lived, however, when she returns home to discover that Samara, the young girl depicted in the tape, has made an intimate connection with Aiden that may cos thim his soul.
