Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell) is a naive young student who agrees to look after blind army vet Frank Slade (Al Pacino) in order to earn some extra cash. But, what started as a way to earn some easy money becomes a struggle when the embittered Slade turns out to be quite a handful. Slade ends up taking Simms into the heart of New York City for what he plans to be his last celebration before killing himself.
