Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell), a one-time disco star, uses his earnings to buy the ABA's Flint Tropics and installs himself as the team's owner-coach-player-promoter. When word comes down from the league office that a merger with the NBA is in the works, Jackie is elated until he learns that only the top four teams will be making the jump to the big time. With the remaining clubs set to be disbanded, Jackie sets out on a one man crusade to save his team. But, in order for the lowly Tropics to climb out of the bottom of the standings, Jackie will need the help of a washed up former star (Woody Harrelson) and a me-first ball hog (André Benjamin).
