Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), an imaginitve girl in love with fairy tales, is forced to move with her pregnant mother (Ariadna Gil) to live with her stepfather (Sergi López), a cold and ruthless captain in the fascist Spanish Army. During her nighttime explorations, Ofelia meets a fairy who brings her to Pan (Doug Jones), a mysterious faun, in the center of a labyrinth, who explains that Ofelia may be a missing princess and must complete three difficult tasks to prove her royalty.
