Years after discovering an ancient ring of stone beneath the sands of Egypt, scientists realize that the mysterious structure is an interstellar portal to a planet on the other side of the universe. When a group of US soldiers led by Col. Jack O'Neil (Kurt Russell) and Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader) travel through the ring, they discover a colony of enslaved humans resembling ancient Egyptians. Attempting to discover their origins, the team learns that the planet is controlled by an alien ruler with unimaginable power. As O'Neil and his soldiers fight for their lives and try to return to Earth, Jackson makes a connection with a young woman, who helps them convince the slaves to rise up against their false god.
