Unhappy with how his life has turned out, middle-aged father Mike O'Donnell (Matthew Perry) wishes he could go back and do it all over again. When he attempts to save the life of a mysterious janitor (Brian Doyle-Murray), Mike gets his chance and awakes to discover that he's been transformed into his 17-year-old self (Zac Efron). After convincing his best fried Ned (Thomas Lennon) who he is, Mike sets out recapture his glory days and experience everything he missed out on. But, after becoming his children's high school classmates and visiting his estranged wife, Scarlett (Leslie Mann), Mike realizes that he already had the perfect life and must find a way to change back into an adult.
