Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) is a psychotherapist who has mastered neurological synaptic transfer, a technique that allows her to access the minds of others while they are in an unconscious state. She is called upon by FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn) to utilize her skill in order to access the inner workings of a comatose serial killer (Vincent D'Onofrio).
