When Dean Stiffle (Jamie Bell) finds that his best friend and local drug dealer, Troy, has hung himself, the death throws their community into disarray. Dean's classmates Billy (Justin Chatwin), Crystal (Camilla Belle), and Lee (Lou Taylor Pucci) plot a kidnapping to get their hands on Troy's remaining stash, but grab the wrong kid. As the botched kidnapping plays out, Troy's unstable mother (Glenn Close) plans a memorial service and the kidnapped boy's mother (Allison Janney) prepares to marry the mayor (Ralph Fiennes).
