Before WWI, Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) had a perfect golf swing, but the ravages of battle have striped him of his innocence and his love for the the game. Returning to Savannah, Junuh learns that his former fiancée Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron) is hosting a golf tournament featuring the greats of the day. Although he initially turns down Adele's invitation to participate, Junah has a change of heart when a mysterious caddy named Bagger Vance (Will Smith) appears seemingly from nowhere, teaching Junuh the secret of mastering the difficulties of both golf and life.
