David Locke (Jack Nicholson), a depressed, jaded television reporter, assumes the identity of a recently deceased gun smuggler while researching a documentary in a North African country. The switch is Locke's last desperate attempt to escape his old life, and he leaves Africa intent of keeping the dead man's appointments, no matter the consequences.
