After their youngest daughter commits suicide, Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon (James Woods and Kathleen Turner) react by isolating her four remaining sisters from social interaction, especially with the opposite sex. When Lux (Kirsten Dunst), the most promiscuous sister, begins to rebel, Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon answer back by placing the girls under virtual house arrest.
