Clothing designer Mary Haines (Meg Ryan) spends most of her days at beauty salons, fancy lunches and fashion shows with her gossipy, high-society friends. Her luxurious, happy life is disrupted when she learns that her husband is cheating on her with Crystal Allen (Eva Mendes), a sexy shop girl. No one is more scandalized than Sylvie Fowler (Annette Bening), Mary's supposed best friend. As Mary goes head to head with Crystal, her friendship with Sylvie is put to the test, and their friends Edie (Debra Messing) and Alex (Jada Pinkett Smith) begin to question their romantic relationships as well.
