Connie Sumner (Diane Lane) lives a happy, quiet life with her loving husband Ed (Richard Gere), a wonderful son and a beautiful home, but something is missing. When she is approached by a handsome stranger (Olivier Martinez) while trying to hail a cab, Connie feels the passionate connection she has been lacking. After agreeing to meet with the stranger, she eventually becomes obsessed with him begins a torrid, secret love affair.
