Bart (Bob Hoskins) is a fierce gangster who maintains his chokehold on the mean streets of Glascow through his enforcer Danny (Jet Li), who he has raised as a savage killer since he was a child. Kept prisoner by Bart, Danny has a chance encounter with a blind piano tuner named Sam (Morgan Freeman) and experiences true kindness and the power of music for the first time. When Danny is able to escape, he takes refuge with Sam and his stepdaughter Victoria (Kerry Condon), whom he must protect when Bart and his gangsters come looking for him.
